Dr. Miyamoto received his Ph.D. in Science from the University of Tokyo. He began his writing career while a graduate student, concurrently conducting neuroscience research. After earning his PhD, he analyzed social applications of science fiction such as “science fiction prototyping” at the University of Tsukuba. He also developed a system to experience Japanese comedies in virtual reality at the University of Tokyo.

Dr. Miyamoto writes literary, visual, and video game critiques, original manga works, and novels for a wide range of media, from academic journals to business information websites. As a science writer, he also interviews researchers and engineers to compose articles. He has also designed and conducted idea-supporting workshops in various locations in industry, government, and academia, where he and participants collaborate to create science fiction and think about the future.
