This section describes the requirements and results of the CoSTEP regular, elective and training courses.

Completion Requirements

The Science Communicator Training Program “certificate of completion” will be awarded to those who have mastered all the compulsory subjects of the regular course, elective course and training course. Lectures, seminars, practical training, practical activities and research are considered to have been completed if the following requirements are met.

*The science communicator training program is not a regular course in graduate school, so you cannot obtain credits or degrees.

Lecture: Attend all 27 lectures in both the regular and elective courses and submit assignments for each module.

Regular course / excercise: A certain number of designated subjects are taken. The completion of exercises is judged comprehensively by combining the achievement status and attendance status of prescribed subjects.

Selective course / excercise: Participate in a three-day exercise at Hokkaido University. The completion of exercises is judged comprehensively by combining the achievement status and attendance status of prescribed subjects.

lab: Make a comprehensive judgment based on an attendance rate of 70% or higher.

Practical activities and research: Judging comprehensively based on the achievement status of the tasks designated by the supervisor.

Achievements

The evaluation will be either “mastery” or “unacquired” and will not be rated with good or good grades. However, awards are given to those who have achieved excellence in the program as a whole based on the prescribed evaluation criteria.
